Lyft, Inc. was one of the pioneers in offering “car sharing” services. The work is built on a platform where ordinary drivers can become Lyft drivers and work as a taxi at their own convenience, and passengers order and pay for Lyft taxis through the application. Lyft was founded by Logan Greene and John Zimmer, and Logan Greene (at the time of writing) is the company’s CEO.
Founded in 2012 as a startup Zimride, the company changed its name to Lyft a year later and subsequently built a big business. Lyft has a presence in 640 US cities (available to approximately 95% of the US population) and 9 cities in Canada. In 2018, the service served over 30 million passengers and a staff of nearly 2 million drivers, generating $ 2.2 billion in revenue.
Lyft went public on March 29, 2019, debuting on the NASDAQ with the ticker LYFT. However, the debut was not successful – on the second trading day, the shares fell by 10%, and as of November 1, 2019, more than 67.5% below the IPO (initial public offering) price of $ 72 per share.
