Earnings Slowdown Ahead with Key Reports from Skyworks, UPS, Disney, and Alibaba

August 7, 2023

The forthcoming week is set to witness a decline in earnings speed, though major reports and potentially industry-shaking updates are expected from Skyworks Solutions (SWKS), United Parcel Service (UPS), Disney (DIS), and Alibaba (BABA).

Performances Against Expectations

To this point, almost 80% of S&P 500 companies have outperformed Q2 consensus EPS predictions, whereas just 59% of firms have surpassed revenue forecasts. The present proportion of revenue successes marks the “lowest in the previous three years”.

Economic Calendar and Bond Market Watch

The economic schedule brings new information on inflation. The Consumer Price Index report for July is set to be published on August 10, while the Producer Price Index report is slated for release on August 11. The bond market may also command attention in the upcoming week, with auctions for three- and 10-year notes, and 30-year bonds projected to surpass earlier expectations, and yields generally on an upward trend.

Key Investor Events and Vulnerability Testing

Notable investor events will be held by Wayfair (NYSE:W) and Kellogg (NYSE:K). In addition, the Def Con hacker convention will challenge AI systems by extensively testing their vulnerabilities.
